Birded Butte Valley CA and Veterans Park in Klamath Falls today, fifteen species with three counters: Rough Legged Hawk, Rock Dove, and Ring Bill Gull. As I write my Northern Flicker is in the back yard. Big Year count now 35

I went birding to Modoc National Wildlife Refuge this afternoon and bagged two more counters for PBY: Tundra Swan, and Pin Tail Duck. PBY total is now: 32:)

Early morning bird report:
A few days ago I put out bird feeders and bird seed to try to attract some birds to my yard. Today they finally found them! As of the moment I have seen a constant shuffle of House Finch, Starling, Flicker, and Western Scrub Jay out my office window. I get one counter, the House Finch, for my Big Year for the effort! PBY count now 30.

On my daily one mile walk this morning I spotted seven different species of birds, two of which are first of the year and countable towards my “Big Year”: Oregon Junko and House Sparrow. Big Year total now 29.

I went birding again today along the Link River Trail. Saw all the usual suspects except one, a Ruddy Duck; add one more to the Great Year List! PGY count now 27 against my Daughter’s 36:(

The birding today was much better than yesterday.
I managed to get twenty two sightings with only two repeats. Total Big Year count to date: 26. Today’s sighting are as follows: Caspian Tern, Greater White Front Goose, Canvas Back Duck, Mallard Duck, Common Goldeneye Duck, Barrows Goldeneye Duck, Northern Shoveler Duck, American Coot, Bufflehead Duck, Great Blue Heron, Canada Goose, Bald Eagle, American Kestrel, Red- Tailed Hawk, Northern Flicker, American Robin, Black Billed, Magpie, Western Scrub Jay, California Quail, Mourning Dove, Great White Egret, European Starling.

Big Year: big deal!
First day of birding was lousy. Not a Swan, Goose, or Duck to be seen on the, Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, all day. We did spot the following:
Red Tail Hawk
Harrier
Common Yellow Throat
Common Crow
Bald Eagle
Great Horned Owl
I’m going to the Link River Trail, near downtown Klamath Falls tomorrow hoping to have better luck.
